As many of our club members know, the board has been working on becoming a non-profit corporation (we have been incorporated in California since May 2012), for some time now.  Working with the state and the IRS has been, well, interesting and time consuming to say the least.  However, we are proud to announce that as of a couple of weeks ago, the Greenbelt Brewers Association is now a Federally identified 501(c)7 Non-Profit!!  And while the paperwork has not yet cleared the whole process with the State’s FTB yet, we expect to hear back on that within the next couple of weeks!

What does this news mean?  It means that we can hopefully involve ourselves within the community more, and will be able to work closer with other non-profits in fundraising events, etc.  The new ABC rules in California in the last couple of years have (as many of you know), made it harder for homebrewers to share their passion in public forums.  Now, with some of the new laws, and with our non-profit status, we’ll again be able to go out, create interest in the hobby, and support the community!

So again, from the board and myself, we’d like to thank each and every one of you in the club (but especially our legal counsel, Ashley Boulduc!!) for helping make this club better and better!!

Cheers,

matt boyer
